Samuel laycock pitted their wits against schools from various parts of Cheshire at Warrington cricket Club.Playing theKwik Cricket format which suits our pupils and is a great introduction to Cricket for Primary Schools, our pupils scored well with the bat but erratic bowling in the Final let us down in the early part of their innings.Playing against a school whose teacher runs the County team we began full of confidence and some great shots were played. However once the pressure is on unless pupils have made the step to regular Cricket by going to a cricket club then it is more difficult to maintain form.
Our pupils are full of enthusiasm but need their parents to take them to clubs which sadly does not happen very often, there are plenty of good Cricket clubs in TAMESIDE which offer opportunities for pupils at a reasonable cost.I'm surprised more schools don't play Cricket given the simplicity of the Kwik cricket format then when transfer to Secondary takes place there is something to build on.
In my experience there are too few schools confident enough to teach and run teams which is a shame. There is still a problem for P,E,Staff in getting through their tiemtable uninterrupted during the Summer term and there is still a short sighted policy re exams which take away facilities which are neede d by departments;many schools lose their indoor facilities for six or seven weeks ,its no wonder departments struggle!
