On the 12/03/18 the finals of the School Games Volleyball competition, ran by Tameside School Sports Partnership, took place at Fairfield High School. Over 50 teams entered the competition, with only 16 able to qualify for the finals. Throughout the entirety of the tournament, it was clear to see there were not only high levels of sporting ability, but the 6 School Games values (Passion, Self-Belief, Respect, Honesty, Determination and Teamwork) were also evident with all teams.
The finals saw schools from all over Tameside battle it out to see who would be crowned Champions. St Mary’s C.E. (Droylsden), Dowson (Hyde), Russell Scott (Denton) and Holden Clough (Ashton) all dug deep to win their respective groups and progress to the semi-finals.
The first semi-final took place between Dowson and Holden Clough and proved to be a close affair. The match looked to be going to the wire, until Dowson held serve to pull away as eventual winners and booking their place in the final. Then it was Russell Scott’s turn to cement their place in the final with a comfortable victory over their competitors, St Mary’s C.E.
Dowson seemed to hit their peak just in time for the final as they ran out 18-2 victors over Russell Scott, completing a professional run of performances throughout the tournament. This meant that Dowson took home the gold medal, with Russell Scott taking silver. Holden Clough secured the bronze medal with a narrow victory over St Mary’s C.E.
Thank you to Fairfield High School for allowing us to use their facilities throughout the competition, as well as Great Academy Ashton and Rayner Stephens High School. Also - a big thanks to all teachers and coaches for their continued support and, most importantly, their enthusiasm.
